African animals - and particularly big mammiferes - have a diversity difficult to see in other continents. Yet many of these animals - or similar species -  lived in other regions of the world but some thousands of years ago. A preserved nature and a moderated hunting allowed nature to develop such a diversity. Unfortunately, during the last two centuries, hunting and poaching endangered several species and some even diseappeared. Moreover, as a consequence of the global warming, there is also the significant extention of deserts in Africa, the water deficit, and  the rarefaction of food in formerly fertile areas.

Nonetheless, Africa remains a place where lions, elephants, rhinos, hippos, antilopes and many species of birds can be seen in their natural environment. Eastern and Southern Africa shelter wide parcs and reserves where all these animals can be observed closely.
